The Police Act of 1861, which is still in effect today, was passed as a result of the recommendation made in 1860 by the Police Commission, which was led by Mr H.M. Court. This led to the creation of the current police system in the nation. The same Court was appointed as the first Inspector General of Police over the region that is now Uttar Pradesh, which at the time included the North West Province and Avadh.
