Procedure for TGC SSB Selection

This will be done in two stages over the course of five days, including the day of arrival:

Stage I- The first day of testing will begin at 7:00 a.m. with an Intelligence Test and a Picture Perception and Discussion Test (PPDT). If you are rejected at Stage I, you will be returned to the Centre in the afternoon of the same day.

Stage II-Stage II tests include psychological tests, group tests I and II, and interviews over the next four days.

SSB Interview Selection Process

The SSB Interview for the Exam is held on 5 consecutive days. Those who successfully complete the written exam will be invited to the SSB interview. Candidates are tested on a range of characteristics over the course of five days.

Day 5: Conference

Day 1 of the SSB Interview Process

The first day of the SSB Interview consists of many tests. They are addressed more below:

1-Paper 1 and Paper 2 of the OIR (Officer Intelligence Rating Test)

OIR tests have two banks of questions that cover both verbal and nonverbal thinking. Previously, candidates had to write their answers down; however, OMR sheets are now given for marking the solutions. The number of questions in each set and the time allotted for each set varies, so pay close attention to the pre-test briefing from the instructor.

2- PP&DT (Picture Perception & Description Test) (Picture Perception & Description Test)

Candidates will first be given a picture (mostly blurry/hazy) for 30 seconds, followed by one minute to report their observations, including the number of characters, their genders, their emotions, and the action in the picture. They will then have four and a half minutes to write a story based on their discoveries.

3. Discussion in Groups (GD)-Before the group can make a decision, the batch is broken into groups of 10 to 15 hopefuls, and each aspirant must tell their experience.

Day 2 of the SSB Interview: Psychological Tests

1. Thematic Apperception Test (TAT): 

Candidates are given four minutes to create a tale after viewing 12 photographs, one of which is blank. The time limit is imposed to examine each Aspirant's natural response.

2. Word Association Test (WAT): 

Aspirants are asked to write down a sentence that comes to mind when they view each of the 60 words for 15 seconds at a time.

3. Situational Reaction Assessment (SRT):

The Aspirants are handed a booklet containing 60 real-life scenarios in which they must submit their reactions. This exercise takes 30 minutes to complete.

4. Self-Description Examination (SDT):

In a few parJaipurphs, candidates must provide a brief self-description of the situation. Write about your parents, teachers, friends, and other people's perspectives, as well as the characteristics you desire to foster. The time restriction for this test is 15 minutes.

SSB Interview Day 3: Officer Group Testing

1. Group Discussion (GD):

Before sharing thoughts, the GTO proposes two subjects for the first GD, from which the group chooses one. The GTO selects a topic for the second GD, and the procedure is repeated. In this case, the group is not required to make a choice.

2. Exercise in Group Planning (GPE):

The GTO explains a situation with a variety of concerns using a map of the location. Following that, the candidates have 10 minutes to write their solutions using all of their resources, including their group. The group then agrees on a method for resolving the challenges, which one of the participants then describes.

3. Progressive Group Assignment (PGT):

This challenge comprises of four different obstacle courses, each of which becomes increasingly difficult as the course progresses. The party is asked to advance and take on these buildings using any tools they have handy, such as a rope, plank, balli, and so on. There is also a load to be transported. The group must follow all GTO guidelines, which include:

(a) Color Rule

  • The colour white can relate to both persons and objects.
  • Blue represents just men.
  • Everyone is forbidden from entering Red.

(b) No one is allowed on the ground.

(c) Rigidity Rule: Assisting materials may be attached to structures but not to each other.

(d) Infinity Rule: The start and end lines extend to infinity, implying that they cannot be crossed directly.

(e) The Rule of Distance: It is not possible to jump more than 4 feet.

4. Snake Race/Group Obstacle Race (GOR):

One of the most enjoyable activities in the procedure is a race across four obstacles, which include a single ramp jump, eight-shaped bars, a 10-foot wall, a double wall, a spider web, and an immense slide. According to the rules, Red should not be touched by either a snake or my man. The snake must be managed by a minimum of three people when navigating obstacles, and the GTO may impose a time penalty for transgressions.

5. Half Group Task (HGT): Like PGT, but with only two people in the group and only one obstacle to overcome.

 

Day 4 of the SSB Interview Process: Personal Interview

1. Lecturette

The leatherette is a test of your confidence in front of a group of people. Each officer is accountable for encouraging his men and explaining the approach. You must speak and sing confidently for this. To validate all of this, the SSB panel administers a test in GTO called as the lectures.

2. Individual Obstacles (IO) The candidate must successfully navigate all ten obstacles, each of which has a separate score printed on it. The candidate may repeat the challenges once he has completed all ten. The results of the ten tasks are displayed below, along with their relative scores.

3. Task of Command (CT)

The GTO selects each task candidate at random before asking them a series of questions and outlining a task similar to the PGT. Then he suggests that the commander who is available call two of his team members as subordinates to help him get around the obstacle.

4. Group Project (FGT)

As the name implies, the entire group is assigned one hurdle similar to PGT that they must overcome jointly.

5. Individual Interview (PI)

Any of the three days after the completion of the day's examinations may be used for the personal interview. Based on the information provided by the student in his PIQ, the interviewing officer asks the student a variety of questions about his family, academics, involvement in sports and extracurricular activities, hobbies and interests, responsibilities, and general knowledge, including knowledge of the forces, personal life, and so on (Personal Information Questionnaire).

The typical interview lasts 40 minutes, however, some can last an hour or even just 5 minutes.

Day 5 of the SSB Interviews: Conference Day

The final day of the 5-day SSB Interview is Conference Day. Before the conference of aspirants begins, the assessor delivers a final address. All of the officials who evaluated the Aspirants the previous days attend a board meeting. Each assessor confers with one another on a candidate's suitability.

After each Aspirant makes an individual appearing before the board and their overall appraisal is explained, the committee offers recommendations. The borderline Aspirants are presented with situations, and a consensus decision is made. Shortlisted applicants are retained once the results are disclosed for extra medical checks.

In terms of the SSB Marking System, each of the three assessors will score the medical exam, group task, and personal interview for a total of 300 points (PI). Each assessor must achieve a minimum score of 90. The SSB has a total of 900 points. It is also divided into four sections (psychology, GTO, interview, and conference round), with each test phase receiving 900/4=225 points. You must obtain at least 90 points out of these 225 in order for either of the assessors to say "Yes," while less than 90 results in a "No."

The first four days of the SSB interview procedure include screening, psychological testing, GTO exercises, and a personal interview. In this situation, you must pass with at least 90*3= 270 points. 1) Assume that one applicant earns 80 points for the interview, 70 points for the GTO, and 75 points for the psychological test. The overall score is 225.

2) A different candidate receives a total of 250 out of the required 270 points. As a result, the significance of the conference round is now clear. If your grade point average is more than 240, the conference round will determine if you are recommended.

ACC SSB Marking Scheme: Important Information

  • The Services Selection Board has a backup score of 225, and they started questioning you during the conference round because they thought you were deficient in various areas.
  • If they believe you are qualified, they will offer you points to boost your cumulative score from 240 to 360 or above (marks As Mentioned Above).
  • As a result, your minimal passing score is 360. (90X4). In addition, you are finally advised.
  • If an assessor is unsure about an applicant's evaluation during the psychology test, he may consult with another assessor. Because they must evaluate a candidate's OLQs in real-time, the GTO or IO cannot obtain a second opinion.
  • If someone is on the verge of receiving a third assessment but is recommended by two assessors, a review is conducted during a conference. In any event, if a psychologist does not deem someone suitable, they are not at all suggested.
  • All of these aspects of your personality are put together on the day of the conference to determine whether or not the applicant is qualified to serve as an officer in the armed forces.
