Territorial Army is one of the wings of the Indian Army which recruits young people who are willing to make a career in this field and gives them training to help them pursue their dream. TA selections are done twice a year. Every year, a huge number of people apply for Territorial Army exam from all across the world, but only few of them get success because of a lack of information regarding this exam. What is Personal Interview Board?

After clearing the written exam, selected candidates will be called for personal interview board. In this round, candidates will be interviewed by Brigadiers, Colonels and Psychologists. All these experts will ask questions related to the candidate’s profile and their educational background.

How To Face Personal Board TA Interview?

Day 1: Form filling and certificate checking – TA Interview

On day 1, you will fill Detailed Application form. Also, your certificates will be checked by the officers on day 1. So, you should be ready with all your certificates in your hand. Check your certificates twice in order to avoid the risk of rejection.

Day 2: Interview – TA Interview

You need to go to the head quarter early in the morning on day 2. There, you will be called by the officer on the basis of your roll number in order to create a batch. In each batch, there will be 15 members. After this, you will be called by the officer and he will take you to the interview hall.

Interview Panel – TA Interview

When you enter the room, you will be asked to sit. After this, you will be asked to introduce yourself by the person from the middle. And, the other members of the panels will ask questions related to your profile and based on current affairs.
All the questions will be casual and easy to answer. So, keep yourself calm and answer all the questions in a very polite manner. If you do not know anything, tell them “I can’t recollect” or “I don’t know” because honesty is very important.



Territorial Army Preparation and TA Interview Tips

Newspaper: Start reading the newspaper regularly. Newspaper gives the idea of the English language and helps you in performing well in TA interview.

Synonyms and Antonyms: Synonyms and antonyms are very important part when it comes to scoring in English. It is not possible to cover all the synonyms and antonyms within a short time frame. But, you should try as much as you can.

Magazines: Current affair plays a significant role in the TA interview. It is important to go through the current affairs magazines of the last 4-5 months.

Be confident: Your voice should be polite and your personality should be appealing. Make eye contact with the officer while answering. Stay positive and confident.

5 Days Procedure – Territorial Army or TA Interview Preparation

Day 1: Screening Test - TA Interview

Reasoning: It consists of two tests, including mental reasoning and mathematical ability. Each test is of 25 minutes. The total number of questions will be 100. If you do not know the answer of any particular question, skip it and start the next one as there is a time limit for this exam.

PPDT: In this test, a picture will be shown to candidates on the screen on which they will be required to perceive correctly. Based on the number of characters in the picture, their age, their mood, and so on, candidates have to write a story. Your perception should be correct. Here, your knowledge, expression, clarity of language (grammatical and logical), and confidence – everything will be considered in this round.

Day 2: Psychological Tests - TA Interview

In this round, the psychologist will assess your personality through the inputs that you have given in your answer sheets. This test is all about your mind. Your answers should look like a natural response and not preconceived. Here, you will also have to complete all the SRTs, 60 TATs, and the 60 WATs. Various types of books are available that will prepare you for these tasks.

Day 3 & 4: Group Task (GTO) - TA Interview

GTO Tasks is designed to test the sociability speaking skills of candidates. An officer should be able to perform his duty along with his colleagues, including

  • Group discussion
  • Group lecture
  • Progressive group task
  • Half group task
  • Command task
Day 5: Personal Interview - TA Interview

It is the most important assessment as it gives you a chance to interact and present your personality in front of the officer. This round will be taken by a high-rank officer and his opinion for every candidate matters a lot. Check out the below points to know more details:

  • The length of this interview is around 30 minutes to 1 hour.
  • The length of the interview does not determine the selection of a candidate. It totally depends on the quality of the interview.
  • In this round, your GK, subject knowledge or anything else will not be tested. It will just test your honesty, awareness about yourself and surroundings.
  • Candidates are suggested to dress up decently and behave positively. Wear any simple formal/semi-formal attire.

5 Days SSB Interview Selection Procedure


Day 1 - SSB interview

The stage-I has been divided into two different parts, including

Intelligence Test: It is a simple test which is designed to judge logic or analytical aptitude of candidates. Based on their knowledge, intelligence rating ranging from I to V is awarded to candidates. The result is based on the total number of correct answers provided by the candidates.

Picture Perception and Discussion Test: In this test, a picture will be shown to candidates on the screen on which they will be required to perceive correctly. Based on the number of characters in the picture, their age, their mood, and so on, candidates have to write a story. Your perception should be correct. Here, your knowledge, expression, clarity of language (grammatical and logical), and confidence – everything will be considered in this round.

Result passing of stage-I Test: It is a combination of intelligence rating, language, gesture, and overall performance in discussion and complete task. Candidates who qualify this round will be moved to stage-II.


Day 2 - SSB interview

Stage-II Psychological Test

This test includes three different techniques, including psychological tests, group tasks, and personal interview.

Psychological Test: In this round, the psychologist will assess your personality through the inputs that you have given in your answer sheets. This test is all about your mind. Your answers should look like natural response and not preconceived. Here, you will also have to complete all the SRTs, 60 TATs, and the 60 WATs. Various types of books are available that will prepare you for these tasks.

Day 3 - SSB interview

Stage-II GTO Test: This round is designed to interact with candidates. Each and every action of candidates will be observed here. Be it your body language, mind, or physical and mental qualifies, you should focus on every activity and action. Here, you will have to be confident and cheerful.

Day 2-4 – SSB Interview

Stage-II Interview: This round is all about to test your heart and conducted by the senior and experienced officer of the armed forces. Here, he could ask about your interests in life, your achievements, your feelings for your parents, friends, teachers, and society, and so on. Do not try to hide anything. Just be honest and confident and you will clear this round.

Day 5 - SSB interview

Stage-II Conference: During the final round, the assessments are discussed along with the candidate’s weak qualities as well as plus points. All the candidates will be analyzed in order to see whether they have qualities to be trained to become an officer. Here, candidates with higher intelligence rating will get additional credit.

Things To Carry In SSB

  1. THE CALL LETTER: You must keep at least three copies of the call-up letter with you. One should be in your hand at the time of reporting at the railway station and the rest safe with you in your bag.
  2. COPY OF FORM FILLED: In some cases like TES, TGC the Selection Boards require a copy or two of the online form filled with your attested photograph. You must be really careful in reading the instructions when filling the online application form.
  3. ORIGINAL IDENTITY PROOF: School/college ID cards, Government issued ID cards like PAN, AADHAR, VOTERS ID, UPSC admit card, Driving license are all acceptable. You ID card must have your photo in it.
  4. EDUCATIONAL CERTIFICATES: You must have at least 4 attested copies and originals of Class 10th mark sheet + certificate (matriculation certificate), Class 12th mark sheet + certificate, your mark sheets of semesters you have passed during graduation and graduation/ Post graduation degree certificate (if applicable).
  5. YOUR EXTRA ACHIEVEMENTS: You must also carry all the original certificates along with their authenticated copies of NCC, sports and co-curricular activities in which you have participated/won.
  6. YOUR PHOTOGRAPH: It is advised that you carry at least 25 passport and 10 stamp sized RECENT photographs with you. People having spectacles must be wearing spectacles in their photograph. The photographs must be in either blue/white background.
    NOTE: - It is advised that you carry all the above-mentioned certificates in originals along with their attested photocopies (at least 4). In case your originals are with your college/organization, you must produce a custodian certificate from the competent authorities clearly stating that they have your original certificates.
  7. CLOTHING: Three pairs of formal clothes (blazer/tie are optional) with complementing shoes, Two pairs of white shorts and T-shirts (with collar) for men and two pairs of white lower pants and T-shirts (with collar) for women. You must also carry a pair of white PT/sports shoes along with 3 pairs of white socks.
  8. OTHER CLOTHING: You must also bring woolen clothing with you if the weather demands. Apart from this you should not forget civil clothing like night dress, casuals, undergarments, towels etc.
  9. MISCELLANEOUS ITEMS: Grooming kit, slippers, bathing kit, lock and key and other items of general use should be carried. You can also carry few essential medicines with you if required.
  10. UNIFORM: A set of uniform (according to the season) and a combat dress is also required for the personnel serving in the Army/Navy/Air Force/Coast Guard.
  11. ADEQUATE WRITING MATERIAL: You must have at least 4 set of ball/gel point pens (black and blue) plus a writing pad for the interview process. A rough notebook/ plain white pages can also be taken along.
  12. FINAL CHECK: You must tally your items with that of the items mentioned in your call up letter. Relax, just think it of a normal outing and take things accordingly.
  13. DON’T PANIC: In case you have forgotten anything you must inform it to the authorities. However, people at the SSB are always happy to help. So, no need to get frantic if you forget to carry a pair of socks!!
NOTE: Kindly avoid carrying any valuable items such as Laptops, Expensive phone, Jewelry. Also keep the cash in your pocket to the minimum. It is better to carry an ATM rather than having too much cash stashed in your wallet.
