UPSC NDA Recruitment & eligibility criteria are as listed below :-


 Candidates must be a citizen of India or any of the following nations:

  • A Subject of Nepal, 
  • A Person of Indian origin (PIO) who migrated from Pakistan, Burma, Sri Lanka, East African countries of the Kenya, Uganda, the United Republic of Tanzania (Formerly Tanganyika and Zanzibar), Zambia, Malawi, Zaire, Ethiopia and Vietnam with the intention of permanently settling in India. 

 It must be provided that these candidates, except Indian citizens, should produce a certificate of eligibility issued by the Government of India (GOI).

Age Limit: 

Only unmarried male candidates between age 17.5 till 21 years of age can apply for the post.

Educational Qualification:

 The educational qualification which is specified by the officials are listed  as below:

  • For Army Wing of NDA:

 The candidates must have passed the 10+2 Intermediate exams from a recognized central/state board.

  • For Air Force and the Naval Wings of National Defence Academy and For Naval Academy: 

The candidate must have passed Class 10+2 with subject streams which are equivalent with Physics, Chemistry, and Maths as main subjects from a recognized State/Central board.



Selection Process Criteria:-


The Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) is the conducting body for this exam and reserves the right to set the exam pattern of this NDA examination. 

The NDA selection Process wholly divided into 2 stages-

  1. The written exam (900 marks) –

It is further divided into 2 parts –

Paper I Mathematics, and

Paper II General Ability Test.

 Each paper is of fixed 2 hours 30 minutes.

  1. SSB Interview – divided into two stages –

Stage I – Officer Intelligence Rating (OIR) tests and the Picture Perception and Description Test (PPDT).

 Stage II – comprises of  Group Testing Officer Tasks, Psychology Tests and the Conference.


There is a negative  marking of 1/3rd (0.33) marks in the NDA exam.

Note- There will be a fixed remuneration for Military Service Pay (MSP) amount of INR 15,500/- per month to be provided to the officers for the rank of Lieutenant to Brigadier Post.

  • NDA Salary During Training Period: 

The candidate under training period will receive a fixed remuneration of Rs.56100/- under the NDA training period salary. Note, that the period of the training shall not be treated as a part of commissioned service, and the allowances during the training period will only be paid as arrears on successful commissioning by cadets.

  • NDA Salary After Training: 

Once, the candidate has been commissioned as an officer for post of Lieutenant, the pay scale will be provided as per level 10 with Rs.56,100/- to 1,77,500/- as basic pay, including all the allowances and other perks included.
