 NATIONAL CADET CORPS-NCC ENTRY CRITERIA:

NCC is the largest youth organization in the world which is regulated by the Ministry of Defence, India. It was formed in the year 1948 under the National Cadet Corps, Act of 1948 and since then it is shaping & constructing the lives of millions of cadets & participants.

Types of NCC Camps:-

·         More than 1450 camps annually at an average frequency of more than 100 camps in a month are conducted by the NCC all over India.

·         400 – 600 cadets attend the NCC camp with Instructional staff comprising 3-4 officers and 15-20 Associate NCC Officers (ANOs)/ Permanent Instructors (PI) Staff/ Whole Time Lady Officers (WTLOs)/ Girl Cadets Instructors (GCIs).

·         Each year more than 8 lakh cadets attend these camps.

 Aim of NCC Camps:-

The basic aim of NCC camps is to carve & shape out a responsible citizen out of a teenager by imparting value & quality lessons, following are some objectives of NCC Camps:-

1.Introduction of cadets to a regimented way of the life.

2.Development of camaraderie, team spirit, leadership qualities, self-confidence, self-reliance and     dignity of labour in the cadets attending the camps.

3.To give cadets the practical approach towards life of the things they acquire.

4.Training in NCC Camps

The training is organized in the different locations, usually the first day of camp involves inauguration ceremonies etc. The real training commences from the next day in form of drill, theory, shooting, obstacle training and other Cultural practices etc. The training also involves skills & lessons like handling of weapons like gun etc. various competitions are organised like Drill competitions, marathons etc. every night, cultural activities are also being conducted to bring out the hidden talent of the Cadets taking part in the camps.

ACTIVITIES OF NATIONAL CADET CORPS NCC:

1.   Institutional Training.

Institutional training being conducted at Colleges and Schools is the mainstay of NCC training and is conducted by Associate NCC Officers and Armed Forces personnel at institutions. The syllabus comprises Common Subjects and Service Subjects in a ratio of 70:30. While the Senior Wing/Division training is for3 years and has 300 periods in total, while the Junior Wing/Division training is for 2 years and has 240 periods of the total in training. The training year commences from 01 Apr to 31 March.

2. Camp Training.

Camp training is the practical kind of manifestation of institutional training. The basic aim of Camp is to introduce cadets to a regimented way of living life and helps in developing camaraderie spirit, teamwork, leadership qualities, self-confidence, self-reliance and dignity of labour in the cadets. The cadets are exposed to the real excitement of camp life where they apply the theoretical knowledge that they had gained in Institutional Training in jungle camps. It is mandatory to be part of it for Junior Division/ Junior Wing cadets to attend at least 1 camp and Senior Division/ Senior Wing cadets to attend a minimum of 2 camps during the period of their enrolment.

3. Annual Republic Day Camping:

The Annual Republic Day Camping (RDC) is held at Garrison Parade Ground, Delhi Cantonment annually from 01 Jan to 29 Jan. 2070 selected NCC cadets from all of the States and Union Territories attend the camp. This camp represents all parts of India and is a ‘Mini India’ miniature in itself. The camp is normally inaugurated by the Vice President of India in the first week of January and culminates with the Prime Minister’s Rally on 28th January.

4. Prime Minister’s Rally event:

The Prime Minister’s Rally, the most prestigious event of the NCC Republic Day Camp is held on 28th January every year. The PM’s Rally commences with the Guard of Honour presented to Hon’ble Prime Minister by all NCC Cadets. 

5. Attachment Training camp:

Cadets also derive immense value through attachment to the Armed Forces special Units where they experience the functioning of all the military units and experience life in armed forces units.

6. Social Service and Community Development Program:

Social Service activities are structured in a way to inspire and encourage the cadets to participate voluntarily towards improvement of their physical and social environment and channelize their energies in the task of nation building constructively. The social service and community development activities include like Swachh Bharat Abhiyan, Tree Plantation Drive, Anti-Drug Rally, Cancer Awareness Program, Disaster Relief program, Blood Donation camp, Beti Bachao Beti Padhao, AIDS Awareness scheme, Care for the Blind or specially-abled, Traffic Control and other similar relevant contemporary important social issues.

7. Youth Exchange Programme (YEP).

Selected NCC cadets also participate in the Youth Exchange Programme (YEP) which is a country-to-country exchange of cadets belonging to NCC/ equivalent Govt/ youth organizations of friendly or neighbourhood countries. They participate in NCC activities of the host country to create an increased awareness scheme and appreciation of one another’s socio-economic and cultural realities & differences. Indian NCC has a vibrant YEP with 10 countries as of now. Our cadets share a strong bond with our friendly YEP partners. As of now, more than 100 cadets proceed abroad on YEP annually.

8. Adventure-Based Learning.

Adventure is the lifeblood of the youth generation. Adventure training in the NCC provides dynamic knowledge to cadets of the topography as well as the experience of different weather conditions and adventurous living styles under camping conditions.  NCC cadets are provided with the opportunity to participate in a host of adventurous activities including Mountain Trekking and Expeditions, Parasailing, Sailing, Scuba-Diving, Kayaking, Camel safari etc.

9. Sports.

NCC also facilitates access to high level physical sports like Football, Hockey and Shooting to  cadets so as to hone their team-building and sport skills. NCC teams participate and excel regularly in National level events like Subroto Cup Football, Nehru Cup Hockey and National Shooting.
