INFORMATION ABOUT NCC THAT IS NATIONAL CADET CORPS IS DESCRIBED BELOW- 

"The discussion for the motto of NCC was started in the 11th central advisory meeting (CAC) held on 11 August 1978. At that time there were many mottos in mind like "Duty and Discipline"; "Duty, Unity and Discipline"; "Duty and Unity"; "Unity and Discipline". Later, at the 12th CAC meeting on 12 Oct 1980 they selected and declared "Unity and Discipline" as the motto for the NCC.[5] In living up to its motto, the NCC strives to be and is one of the greatest cohesive forces of the nation, bringing together the youth hailing from different parts of the country and moulding them into united and disciplined citizens of the nation".

The NCC is headed by the Director General (DG), an officer of three-star rank. The DG is assisted by two Additional Director Generals (A and B) of two-star rank (major-general, rear-admiral or air vice-marshal). Five Brigadier level officers and other civil officials also assist him.

The Headquarters is located in Delhi. The organisational structure continues as follows:

Directorate – There are 17 Directorates[6] located in the state capitals headed by an officer of the rank of a Maj Gen from the three Services.

Division / Regimental Corps – There are 3 such Specialised Corps located in Mumbai, Delhi and Bangalore respectively. They are independent of the state directorate and report to the HQ. These divisions form the support function of the regular NCC. Each is headed by a Senior Officer- an equivalent rank of (Lt.) General. Internal Affairs, Administration, Development and Research: Lt. Gen. [SUO] Arvind Shekhar (New Delhi). Recruitment, Training, Media and HR: Lt. Gen. [SUO] Prithvi Pant Negi (Mumbai). Special Forces, Infantry, Gallantry Committee & Commendations: Lt. Gen. [SUO] Bhav Salimath (Bangalore).

Group – Depending upon the size of the state and growth of NCC in the states, Directorates have up to 14 Group Headquarters under them through which they exercise their command and control of the organisation in the state. Each group is headed by an officer of the rank of Brigadier or equivalent known as Group Commander.

Battalion- Each NCC Group Headquarters control 5–7 units (Bns) commanded by Colonel/Lt.Col or equivalent.

Company – Each Battalion consists of companies which are commanded by the Associate NCC Officer (ANO) of the rank of lieutenant to major.

In all, there are 96 Group Headquarters in the country that exercise control over a network of 684 Army wing units (including technical and girls units), 69 Naval wing units and 61 Air Squadrons. There are two training establishments namely Officers Training School, Kamptee (Nagpur, Maharashtra) and Women Officers Training School, Gwalior. Besides this Vice Chancellor of various universities across India are conferred with the honorary rank of commandant in NCC, to promote and support NCC in their respective universities.

Regular Officers- 

The NCC directorates are headed by service officers of the rank of major general and equivalent; group headquarters are headed by service officers of the rank of brigadiers and equivalent, and units are headed by service officers of the rank of colonel (TS)/lieutenant colonel/major or equivalent. They are responsible for proper training, planning and execution of NCC activities.

Whole Time Lady Officers- 

A cadre of whole-time lady officers (WTLO) with a cadre strength of 110 officers was sanctioned in 1995. They are to be commissioned partly through departmental channels and partly through UPSC in a phased manner.

Associate NCC Officer- 

ANO is an important link in the NCC organization between the battalion and the cadets. As a matter of fact, ANO is the feeder node of NCC since they are the one who is in direct contact with the cadets all throughout the year. There are two training establishments namely Officers Training Academy, Kamptee and Officers Training Academy, Gwalior. These two institutions train the school and college teachers selected to head the company/troop. Courses in these institutions range from 21 days to 90 days in duration.

There are Three Certificates in NCC. Below describes about it from lower value to higher value:-

  • Certificate – A : It can be taken by JD/JW cadets of the NCC, during class 8 and 9. After passing those classes it can't be obtained. The candidate must have attended a minimum 75% of total training periods laid down in the syllabus for the first and second years of JD/JW NCC (All Wings). The candidate must have attended one Annual Training Camp.
  • Certificate – B : It can be taken by SD/SW cadets of the NCC, after class year 10 and those studying for a degree. The candidate must have attended a minimum 75% of total training periods laid down in the syllabus for the first and second years of SD/SW NCC (All Wings). The cadet must have attended one Annual Training Camp/NIC. Cadets who possess Certificate - A will be awarded 10 bonus marks. An air wing cadet must do a minimum 10 Glider launches.
  • Certificate – C : Is the highest level certificate for NCC cadets. It can be taken in the third year of training, in the third year of degree course. Those who possess a Certificate - B can take it in the first year after their +2, and in the first year of their degree. The cadet must have attended two Annual Training Camps or one Annual Training Camp and one of the following: RD Camp Delhi, Centrally Organised Camp, Para Training Camp, Attachment Training with service units, National Integration Camp, Youth Exchange Programme, or Foreign Cruise (Navy Wing only.

SELECTION PROCEDURE OF NCC THAT IS NATIONAL CADET CORPS IN INDIAN ARMY IS DESCRIBED BELOW - 

After Shortlisting of Candidates by the Integrated HQ of MoD (Army) the center allotment will be intimated  to eligible candidates via their email. 

  • Call up letter for SSB Interview will be issued by the respective selection center. 
  • Shortlisted candidates will have to undergo SSB i.e Services Selection Board  of two phases at  selection center Allahabad (UP) Bhopal (MP), Banglore (Karnataka) and Kapurthala  (PB).
  • Selected Candidates will be detailed for pre- commission training at OTA chennai
  • All candidates who successfully complete pre- commission training at officer training Academy (OTA) Chennai.
  • The final allocation of Arms / Services will  be made prior to passing out of Gentlemen/ Lady cadets  from OTA.

HERE WE DESCRIBE THE (SSB) SERVICE SELECTION BOARD PROCESS OF (NCC) NATIONAL CADET CORPS - 

 

The SSB  Service Selection Board interview spans for 5 days during which various tests are conducted or framed to test the qualities and personality of the aspirants.SSB i.e Service Selection Board  interview has a unique pattern and procedure where in the tests are framed in a manner so as to reflect the actual personality and psychology of the candidate.

There are certain established qualities in the Indian Armed forces called the ‘Officer Like Qualities’ (OLQ) which are usually looked  for in an aspirant during this interview. So the five day procedure is an attempt by the Selection board to observe the candidates and scrutinize  their every quality to see if they have the required OLQ. (Officers like Qualities) The entire procedure as followed on different day is as follows in details is given below -:

SSB INTERVIEW - DAY - 1 

  On the very first day, the screening Test is conducted consisting of an OIR (Officers intelligence Rating) test and PPDT (Picture Perception and Description Test) 

In the OIR (Officers Intelligence Rating) Test , candidates are given a set of 50 questions based on Quantitative Aptitude and Verbal and Non- verbal  and Non- verbal reasoning The time given to solve these questions will be 30 minutes. After that in PPDT(Picture Perception and Description Test ), Candidate will be  shown a static picture on the projector for 30 second and they have to come up with a thoughtful story based on your perception 

The candidates who do not perform well are sent back on the first day.

SSB INTERVIEW - DAY -2

After the first day , the candidate is called for psychological testing on the second day of SSB i.e Service Selection Board Interview are given below-:

TAT (Thematic Apperception Test ) 

In this test, the candidates are shown a hazy / blurred picture on the projector and the candidate has to write a positive story.The  12th picture will be blak and the candidate needs to write a self - description.

Wat (Word Association Test)

This test determines the candidate’s psychology . 60 words shown on projector and candidates have to associate these words withs some positive events.

SRT (Situation Reaction Test)

In this 10 minutes will be given to the candidate for answering these questions . 60 question are given and candidate have to write 2-3 sentences in each situation 

SSB (Service Selection Board) Interview - DAY 3 and 4 

On the third and fourth day the GTO (Ground Task Obstacle) is done to determine the Suitable candidate GTO (Group Testing Officers) is the most powerful  person in the SSB (Service Selection Board) Interview he will spend two days testing the abilities of candidates.

GTO testing divided into following -:

  • Ground Discussion (GD)
  • Group Planning Exercise (GPE)
  • Progressive Group Task (PGT)
  • Group Obstacle Race (GOR)
  • Half Group Task (HGT)
  • Lecturettle 
  • Individual Obstacles (IO)
  • Command Task (CT)
  • Final Group Task (FGT)

SSB Interview - Day - 5

D- Day of the SSB (Service Selection Board) Interview  On this day the candidate is called for the conference for verification by the panel and after this the result is announced .

A Personal interview round is also organized on any day between second to the fourth day.

The interview officers are a top senior officer like Colonel or Brigadier. Personal interview is an integral port of SSB (Service Selection Board) interview in PIQ i..e Personal Information Questionnaire. So they need to be correct and genuine.

NCC  NATIONAL CADET CORPS Special Entry Salary- 

The candidates will be firstly given training at OTA where they will only be paid a stipend during the service training, which will be INR 56,100/-p.m. On completion of the training, the candidates will be given a starting salary in the Pay Matrix of the Officer Commissione fixed in the first Cell of Level 10 in Level INR 56,100/- to INR 1,77,500/-. The candidates will be appointed to the post of Lieutenant.

Indian Army NCC NATIONAL CADET CORPS  Special Entry Training- 

Duration of Training: 49 weeks

Selected candidates will be detailed for training at Officers Training Academy, Chennai according to their position in the final order of merit (engineering stream-wise) upto the number of available vacancies and subject to meeting all eligibility criteria.

Candidates will neither be allowed to marry during the period of training nor will he/she be allowed to live with parents/guardians. Candidates must not marry until they complete the full training at OTA. A candidate, who marries subsequent to the date of his/her application, though successful at the SSB interview or medical examination, will not be inducted for training. A candidate if he/she marries, while under training, shall be discharged and will be liable to refund all expenditure incurred on him/her by the Government. It is also applicable to the wards of Battle Casualties of Army Personnel.

Cost of Training given below- The entire cost of training at OTA is at  government expense. The cadet is withdrawn from training academy due to reasons other than medical ground or reasons not beyond will be liable to refund cost of training 13,941/ per week .

TENURE OF COMMISSION OF NCC NATIONAL CADET CORPS- 

Short Service Commission will be granted to Male and Female in the regular Army for 14 years i.e. for an initial period of 10 years extendable by a further period of 04 years.

TERMINATION OF COMMISSION IN NCC NATIONAL CADET CORPS IS GIVEN BELOW- 

An officer granted Short Service Commission will be liable to serve for ten years but his/her Commission may be terminated at any time by the Government of India for:

(i) Misconduct or if his/her services are found to be unsatisfactory, or

(ii) On account of medical unfitness, or

(iii) If his/her services are no longer required, or

(iv) If he/she fails to qualify in any prescribed test or course.

(v) An officer may on giving three months’ notice be permitted to resign his/her commission on compassionate grounds of which the Government of India will be the sole judge. An officer who is permitted to resign his/her commission on compassionate grounds will not be eligible for terminal gratuity.

Male & Female officers who are willing to continue to serve in Indian Army after the expiry of period of ten years of Short Service Commission may, if eligible and suitable in all respects, be considered for the grant of Permanent Commission (PC) in the 10th year of their Short Service Commission in accordance with the relevant policies as issued from time to time.

Those SSC officers (Male & Female) who are not selected for grant of PC but are otherwise considered fit and suitable, will be given options to continue as SSCOs for a total period of 14 years (including the initial tenure of 10 years) on expiry of which they will be released from Indian Army. 

Reserve Liability - Short Service Commission officers on release  before or expiry of contractual length of service  will  carry reserve  liability to serve  Indian army for five years plus two years on voluntary basis or  up to the age of 37 years of women and 40 years for men whichever is earlier.
