Brief description of the Indian Coast Guard:

The Indian Coast Guard (ICG) is a maritime law enforcement and search plus rescue agency of India with jurisdiction over its all-territorial waters including its contiguous zone and exclusive economic zone. The Indian Coast Guard was established on 1st February 1977 by the Coast Guard Act, 1978 of the Parliament of India. It operates under Ministry of Defence.

The Indian Coast Guard works in close cooperation with the Indian Navy, the Department of Fisheries, the Department of Revenue (Customs), and the Central Armed Police Forces (CAPF), and the State Police Services (SPS).

12th Class Passed with Maths And Physics as one of the subjects from any Education Board recognized by Council of Boards of School Education (COBSE).

2.Salary & Perks:

  • Navik (GD) - Basic pay of Rs. 21700/- (Pay Level-3) + Dearness Allowance and other perquisites based on nature of duty/place of posting as per the prevailing regulations by the Indian Coast Guard.

Selection Criteria for ICG Navik- General Duty(GD) Posts:

The selection will be done on the basis of following criteria:-

Stage- I –Written Examination Test

Stage 2 - It consists of Physical Fitness Test(pass/fail), Document verification Test (Pass/fail), Re-assessment of Inconsistent Performers  Record (Pass/fail), Initial Medical Examination. (Pass/Fail)

Stage 3 - It involves Document Verification Test (Provisionally Pass/Fail), Final Medicals at INS Chilka center, Submission of Original Documents for verification, Police Verification and Other Required Forms..

Stage 4 - The candidates need to submit all the original documents and verification of all the original documents through boards/universities/state government will be checked out by the Indian Coast Guard. The candidates will be terminated from the service if the documents submitted are not genuine by their respective boards/universities/state government.

Examination Pattern:-

1. Written Exam:

The written examination of ICG Navik-general duty consists of the subjects like physics, Chemistry, mathematics, Knowledge of English up to Intermediate standard, General Knowledge, Quantitative Aptitude and Reasoning, Current Affairs of national & international importance etc. Check the Indian Coast Guard Navik - GD Syllabus for Section I and Section II in recruitment notification for detailed information.

2. Physical Test:-

Candidates who are qualifying for the written examination will have to undergo a Physical Fitness Test (PFT) and the testing process will occur for 2 days. Physically Challenged or Specially abled candidates are not eligible to apply for this ICG-GD General Duty examination. The parameters for the Physical fitness test are mentioned below as:

  • 1.6 Km running to be completed in 7 minutes
  • 20 Squat-ups
  • 10 Push-ups

3.Medical Examination:-

After qualifying for 1st & 2nd stages- written exam and physical fitness test ,candidates will be eligible for the medical examination process. Medical examination will be conducted by the authorized Military Doctors as per medical standards prescribed in mentioned regulations applicable to Enrolled Personnel on entry of Indian Coast Guard-General duty.
