ICG mainly stands for Indian Coast Guard. The main role of the officers in the Indian Coast Guard is to protect the marine borders of the country and assist in the rescue of people at sea. Indian Coast Guard are Officer's Entry and Sailor's Entry.

DOMESTIC BRANCH (DB) in INDIAN COAST GUARD - 

The selection process includes several phases- A written test , PFT (Physical fitness test) and Medical examination 

ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA- 

  1. NATIONALITY- Candidate must be citizen of India and document must be verified by government of India. 
  2. AGE LIMITATION - Candidate age  should be between 18 and 22 years 
  3. EDUCATIONAL QUALIFICATIONS - Candidate must pass class 10th from an education board recognised by council of boards for school education.

TRAINING - 

The basic training for Navik (Domestic Branch)will be conducted at INS Chilka followed by sea training and professional training in the allotted trade. Branch/ trade will be allocated as per the requirement of service and performance during basic training. Basic training at INS Chilka will cover the following Subjects:

Academic and service subjects.

Sports activities

Outdoor training such as Parade Training, Sailing, Boat Pulling, Swimming, Trekking, Cross-Country, Firing etc.

Service-oriented activities including maintenance of equipment, living spaces and training areas etc.

Duration of Training- 

Naviks (Domestic Branch) – 16 weeks 

On completion of basic training at INS Chilka, the trainee will undergo professional and sea training for a period of 06 months to 2 years or as decided by ICG.

Naviks (DB) are liable to be discharged as UNSUITABLE if their progress (including academic) or conduct is unsatisfactory at any time during training. Trainees are also liable to be discharged at any stage of training if their online application or the documents are found to be falsified at any stage of recruitment.

Indian Coast Guard is hiring candidates for the post of Navik DB in the job profile of Steward and Cook. Therefore, you need to know the details of these job profiles -

  • Navik (DB) Cook:You have to prepare veg as well as non-veg food as per the menu listed by the Indian Coast Guard. You need to perform weekly accounting of food ration.
  • Navik (DB) Steward: You will be tasked with serving the food in the Indian Coast Guard’s Canteen/Mess. Perform chores related to housekeeping, waiter, maintenance, etc. You need to perform accounting of funds associated with food as well.

Indian Coast Guard Navik DB Career Growth and Promotion- 

With consistency in performance during your time as a Navik Domestic Branch Officer, you will receive periodical promotions up to the rank of Pradhan Adhikari. The basic pay of Pradhan Adhikari is Rs. 47,600 (Pay level 8) along with Dearness Allowance.

Salary Structure of Indian Coast Guard Navik DB- 

 The salary of the Navik DB officer is as per 7th Commission pay and hence, the basic pay is Rs. 21,700. Therefore, as per the government norms, you will receive the basic pay of Rs. 21,700 along with grade pay of Rs. 1900 as your basic salary.

EXAM PATTERN- 

  • Computer based exam is conducted which comprises 60 marks which comprises Maths, Science, English, Reasoning and General Knowledge.  The standard of syllabus is of class 10th. 
  • Those who qualify the written exam is asked to appear in Physical fitness test 
  • Final document verification and Medical exam at INS Chilka. 
  •  Candidates on the merit list are shortlisted for training at INS Chilka.
