CDS stands for Combined Defence Services. Candidates who want to be a part of Indian Military Academy, Officers Training Academy, Indian Naval Academy and Indian Air Force Academy can apply for the same position and start preparing for Combined Defence Services Examination. This exam is conducted twice a year by UPSC (Union Public Services Conducted). Candidates that clear CDS written exam will be called for the CDS SSB interview by Service Selection Board (SSB). After this, the successful candidates will be appointed by respective training academies.
CDS releases its notification for exams in the month of October and June. On the other hand, CDA exam is conducted twice a year in February and November month.
After clearing the written test for CDS, candidates have to go through the CDS SSB interview which includes a series of personality tests. The CDS SSB interview process is same for all the wings, including IMA, OTA, NA, and AFA. The only difference is that the candidates will be called by SSB as per their marks. The cutoff marks for all these exams are different. For instance, the cutoff for OTA is lower than AFA.
Coming back to the CDS SSB interview, the interview is a five-six day process. OTA, IMA and NA are a five days process, whereas AFA is a six days process. In the end, the selection is made by the board on the basis of deductions drawn by different candidates who have gone through the interview process.
