AFCAT i.e Air Force Common Admission Test. AFCAT is framed by the Indian Air force twice a year for the interested candidates to fill up their vacancies. Vacancies are released for various posts such as Flying , Ground Duty , Meteorology separately for men and women.

ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA- 

 

  • NATIONALITY- Candidate should be citizen of India as per the Indian citizenship act , 1995 
  • EDUCATIONAL QUALIFICATIONS- 

FOR FLYING BRANCH - 50 percent marks in each Maths, physics of class 12 along with graduation degree with recognised university or B.Tech degree with 60 percent of marks with recognized university of India. 

 

GROUND DUTY (Technical Branch) - 50 percent marks in each subject Maths, Physics in intermediate and 4 years of Engineering degree with recognized university of India.


 

GROUND DUTY (Non- Technical Branches)- 

10+2 and Graduation degree of 3 years with minimum marks of 60 percent with recognised university or India.

     

  •   AGE LIMITATION -  Candidate should be 20 years to 26 years of age

 

AFCAT Marital Status

  • Candidates below 25 years of age must be unmarried at the time of commencement of the course 
  • Widows/Widowers and divorcees below 25 years are also not eligible 
  • Married candidates above 25 years are eligible to apply, but during their training period, they are neither provided married accommodation nor can they live with family. 



 

EXAM PATTERN OF AFCAT - 

 

Non- Technical AFCAT - General Awareness, Reasoning, Military Aptitude Test, Numerical Ability, Verbal Ability with 100 questions of 300 marks and the time duration is 2 hours.


 

EKT for Technical Branch- Mechanical, Electronics, Computer Science with 50 questions of 150 marks and the time duration is about 45 minutes. 

 

SELECTION PROCESS IN AFCAT- 

 

  1. Computer Based test 
  2. AFSB Test divided into two stages (stage 1 and stage 2)
  3. Medical Examination 


 

AFCAT 2023 Selection Process 

The selection process of AFCAT 2023 includes three stages which are computer- based, test AFSB, and Medical Exam.

Computer Based Test (CBE):

This is the first stage of the selection process. An online examination is conducted, and the candidates performing extremely well and meeting the cutoff will proceed to the subsequent stage of the AFCAT selection process.

AFSB (Air Force Selection Board)Test 

The shortlisted applicant will be called  for the interview of the personality test. This round will screen the candidate on their personal and intellect.

Medical Examination 

The applicants must be medically fit to be eligible for the job.

The  official have further divided the AFSB (Air Force Selection Board) also known as the Air-Force Selection Board , into two tiers which are mentioned  below.

  • AFSB (Air Force Selection Board)  Stage -1 -: Intelligence Test, Picture Perception, and Discussion 
  • AFSB (Air Force Selection Board) Testing Stage -2-: Psychological test , Group Discussion,(GD) AFSB interview, Computerized Pilot Selection System (CPSS) Test 

STEP 2 - AFSB (AIR FORCE SELECTION BOARD) TESTING

If you have successfully cleared step - 1 you will receive a Call letter to report to any one of the Air FOrce Selection  Boards located at Dehradun, Varanasi, Gandhinagar and Mysore. At the Air Force selection Board (AFSB), you undergo the following tests in order to ascertain your suitability and gauge your potential as an officer in the Indian Air Force.

  • STAGE - I TESTING 

    • Officer intelligence rating Test, (OIR)
    • Picture perception and Discussion Test. (PPDT)

STAGE -I is a screening test. Those who qualify STAGE -I are eligible to undergo STAGE-II testing. STAGE -I disqualified candidates are routed back after announcement of results.

  • STAGE - II TESTING 

All STAGE -I qualified candidates undergo following tests as part of  STAGE - II testing during the next four to five days. The fifth day is for (CPSS) Computerized Pilot Selection System testing (Flying Branch).

  • Psychological Tests are written tests that are conducted by a psychologist.
  • Group Tests are Interactive indoor and outdoor activities which are a combination of mental and physical work.
  • The interview involves a personal conversation with an interviewing officer.
  • Candidates who have applied for the flying branches and have been recommended will also have to undergo Computerized Pilot Selection System (CPSS) Test.

These tests will be explained to you in detail before they are conducted by the Selection Board.

STEP 3 - CONDUCT OF MEDICAL EXAMINATIONS 

If you are recommended by the Selection Board, you will be sent for the medical examination either at the Air Force Central Medical Establishment (AFCME), New Delhi or the Institute of Aviation Medicine, Bengaluru.

STEP 4 PREPARING ALL INDIA MERIT LIST

An all-India Merit is compiled on the basis of your performance in the written test and  AFSB (Air Force Selection Board) interview, subject to being medically fit. Based on the vacancies available in various branches / sub-branches, Joining instructions are issued to join one of the Training establishments.
